The French

Rebasing the French collection were completed two months ago and these past few weeks was spent correcting their ragged appearance to one with proper regimental distinctions, such as cuffs, lapels, turnbacks and waistcoats. This took time to complete, but offered an opportunity to reorganise the regiments, some were eliminated others were strengthened with an extra battalion or two. This last step meant flags were painted for the extra battalions.

The following photos are of three brigades of infantry; two are French and the last are the foreign regiments.

The French infantry in the first photo are three battalions of Picardie and Navarre and Belzunce, each a single battalion.

Next are Du Roi of 1 battalion, Poitou, 2 battalions, Eu, 1 battalion and supporting the brigade, a single battalion the Grenadiers de France.

The foreign regiments now number three with each of two battalions. From left to right, Alsace, Reding and Royal Suedois.

Light troops were used extensively and represented here are the Volontaires de Flandre and Volontaires de Hainaut, to their rear, the hussar regiments Bercheny and Turpin.

Much time was spent correcting details for the cavalry, saddlecloths, cuffs, turnbacks and lapels. To the left of the photo are four royal regiments of horse, Royal Cavalerie, Royal Cravate, Royal Carabiniers, Royal Pologne and four prince de sang regiments Bourgogne, Chartres, Bourbon and Clermont.

Completing the cavalry for the French are the dragoon regiments Colonel General, Maestre de Camp, La Reine, Orleans, Harcourt and Apchon.
