Of all the armies in the collection, about 10% would be at home in desert or arid terrain. Of the four terrain mats to be constructed, this is the easiest to make and will serve as a benchmark. This will require no grass as there are assorted scatter material to bring colour to the table.
The ground
One, a base
coat of white.
Two, the
desert colour was made mixing Warm Grey and White.
Three,
after drying overnight, I mixed Warm Grey and Black, diluted the mixture and applied this sparingly
with a sponge to bring variation to the ground.
Four, lighten
further the mix of White with Warm Grey, this was diluted and applied in the same
method as step three. Use a moist feathered sponge to soften the edges of your
paint.
No grass
was applied, as scatter material would suffice to bring extra colour to the
terrain. The hills were painted in a darker shade than was used above,
unfortunately, the photos do not show this well, but there is contrast.
Terrain items, such as hills and templates were made during this project. I also took the opportunity to re-base two villages to conform with the colour scheme. Future
terrain projects will include a dry river bed
and a few ruins.
