The artillery and guard infantry are painted, varnished and based. The next batch are all the cavalry.
The cavalry is, for the most part, line troops with a small unit of guard. These will be painted in a similar style as their infantry counterparts following a similar trend for most uniforms of the 18th century; that is a standard colour of uniforms with caps (grenadier, fusilier, tricorn) and regimental standards being the sole means of identifying units.
In the photo, the figures are free of their original bases and a number of standard bearers required some minor conversion; these now wield swords. The pack animals will be based with engineers figures as this seemed appropriate. Lastly, two officer figures will be added to the general staff to lead infantry brigades.
In retrospect, some projects can remain dormant for a long period of time, then move at an accelerated speed when everything falls into place. One more batch remains, the specialist units, and then texturing all the bases.
Flags will be the very last step and I hope next week to have preliminary sketches done. The designs will step away from the usual Warhammer Dark Elf themes and develop toward an appearance that would not be too out of place in the 18th century.
Cheers,

Impressive and handsome cavalry!
Great to see you returning to this project. I remember you starting it back in the mists of time.
Phil and majormike,
Thanks for the kind words.
For the past year and a half, refurbishing existing projects became a higher priority than purchasing new miniatures. The painting style has greatly improved and prudence dictate I return to the older collections and revitalise them; both the ancient and medieval have benefited, which leaves the gunpowder era.
Melniboné started with a bang, but was quietly replaced by other interesting projects.
Ten years on, repainting the figures has infused new blood in the project, that writing the story behind Melniboné of the 18th century has started and maps of the archipelago are being developed.
