This project has two goals, first, the refurbishment of the Seven Years War collection and second, to streamline the WRG rules toward a quick play set, similar to DBA. Both tasks will be done in conjunction as testing the modified set will need figures.
The
miniatures
Previously, the collection had each element represent a battalion of foot or a regiment of cavalry. The bases have been resized to accommodate two ranks of infantry figures making four elements a battalion. Cavalry regiments are of six elements, each with two mounted figures, in essence, each element is a squadron.
The transformation
The reorganisation will take time to complete and work has begun on the Austrians. Regimental distinctions, such as facings, collars, lapels will be corrected later. It is fortunate the majority of regiments had either red or blue cuffs with minor variations of lapels and collars.
In addition to the German regiments, there are Hungarian and Grenzer battalions. The Hungarians are based similar to the German units and are distinct in their tight sky-blue breeches. The Grenzers are based three to a stand and fight in loose order, giving them an advantage over Prussian units. Flags for the German and Hungarian units have been retained and will be added to the new units.
There are two regiments of dragoons and two of hussars rebased giving the Austrians a strong cavalry presence. Next in the queue are several regiments of cuirassiers and more dragoons.
Three battalion guns have been rebased, there are at least 18 guns left to do (mostly 8 & 12 pounder). These will need deeper bases.
Currently,
the Austrians based:
2 regiments of Dragoons
2 regiments of Hussars,
4 battalions of German infantry
2 battalions of Hungarian infantry
2 battalions of Grenzer infantry
1 battalion of combined grenadier coys.
3 battalion guns
A further
two boxes of Austrians will double the above.
